Microbial biofilms - The physiology and collective recalcitrance of microbial biofilm communities: Quorum sensing and quenching mechanisms. Microbial stress responses: Heat, temperature, pH Microbial energy stores, Microbial fuel cells and applications. Special emphasis will be placed on demonstrating the role of prokaryotic structures in evolutionary adaptation, disease establishment and their potential as targets for the development of antibiotics and/or therapeutics.
